Age Requirements

Age is determined as at 31 December 2019

Minimum age for competition is 27 years

Participation Fees

Games Entry Fee:

$110 per person or $99 per person for people aged 70+

(the above entry fees will increase to $137.50 and $126.50 respectively as at 3 August 2019)

Sport Entry Fee:

$40.00 Per person (for the first event)

$10.00 Per person (for each additional event)

NOTE: The additional event fee for Breast Cancer Survivors to compete in Breast Cancer Survivor events (events 7 and 8) will be waived if registered for additional events.

*Coaches/Managers not ‘on the boat’ will need to pay the Sport Fee and the Games Entry Fee if they wish to receive a medal.

Number of Participant Requirements

Minimum number of participants required to conduct competition: 150 participants across all age groups and events.

Minimum number of participants required to conduct age groups: 60

Any age group that does not have a minimum of 60 participants will be combined with another age group.

Additional Information

  • Events are dependent on the number of entries.
  • Individuals who wish to participate may enter on an individual basis and every endeavour will be made to place them in a team. Individuals should contact the dragon boat organiser to discuss their particular requirements
  • All races will be conducted over 200 metres.
  • 20’s teams will consist of a minimum of 18 people (16 paddlers, 1 drummer, 1 sweep) and a maximum of 27 people (20 paddlers, 1 drummer, 1 sweep, 1 coach/manager and 4 reserve paddlers).
  • 10’s teams will consist of a minimum of 12 people (10 paddlers, 1 drummer, 1 sweep) and a maximum of 15 people (10 paddlers, 1 drummer, 1 sweep, 1 coach/manager and 2 reserve paddlers).
  • Women’s teams – All crew including the drummer and the sweep must be female  
  • Mixed teams – A crew must contain a minimum of 4 and a maximum of 5 of both men & women for a 10’s team and a minimum of 8 and a maximum of 10 of both men & women for a 20’s team.
  • Open teams – may be any combination of men and women. 
  • Social teams/Corporate – can be of any gender combination and may contain a maximum of 2 paddlers who have previously competed for a dragon boat club in ‘sports’ events at regattas. Where the eligibility of an individual competitor in a social team is disputed, the Organising Committee’s decision will be final.
  • Age group – Senior C must attain the minimum age of 60 by 31 December 2019. Senior B must attain the minimum age of 50 by 31 December 2019.  Senior A must attain the minimum age of 40 by 31 December 2019.  Future Masters must attain the minimum age of 27 by 9th October 2019 and be no older than 39 by 31 December 2019.

PFD. It is optional for paddlers to wear PFDs, however, all sweeps and drummers must wear PFDs at West Lakes and will be supplied with one if they do not choose to bring their own.

 

Rules

The competition will be conducted under Australian Dragon Boat Federation Racing Regulations with minor amendments for local conditions. The final rules and regulations will be provided in the Sports Program or are available on the DragonBoat SA website.
